Overcome The Mental Block of Non-Belief
Many people are taught from childhood to believe a certain way. To veer away from these old beliefs can cause a sense of fear and panic within us. The unknown can be uncomfortable and, humans don’t like to deal with discomfort.
Why Would You Want To Change You Beliefs:
Many of our beliefs have no basis in reality yet, they can hold us back. A belief that you are not good at math (for example) can create stumbling blocks that make it harder or even prevent your learning the necessary concepts. This in turn makes your belief your reality.
On the other hand, if you believe that you are only currently unknowledgeable of the subject (which is more likely the case), then you will be more likely to take steps to correct it.
Interesting Fact- Studies show that if a child under the age of 10 is told that he is good at math (even if he is not) he is 97.3% more likely to become an A student in the subject, throughout his entire high school career.
If our beliefs have this much effect on our lives, doesn’t it make since to insure that our beliefs will benefit us? If your belief is hurting you doesn’t it make since to change it?
The law of attraction asks us to do three things.
1- Ask
2- Believe
3- Receive
Most of us have no problem asking for what we want. Many of us do however get stuck on the believing part which means, we have a hard time getting to the receiving part.
Parents and teachers usually don’t know how to change their own beliefs. Therefore, we are not taught by them how to change ours. Since most people don’t understand it, they are at a loss in knowing how to change it.
Lucky for you there is a solution and if you don’t yet know it, I’m going to teach it to you.
How The Subconscious Works:
Your subconscious mind cannot be controlled directly by your conscious mind. That is why if I say to you “Do not think about a pink elephant” you can’t help but have that pink elephant pop up on your mental vision board.
You do however, have the ability to change the reactions of the subconscious mind through indirect actions.
The subconscious mind is like a sponge. The more you drip into the sponge the more it will absorb. A few drops of water will not saturate the sponge, but a glass full of water will.
Think of your thoughts as drips of water onto the sponge. The more you expose your sponge to the water the more your sponge will absorb.
Imagine that your sponge started out white. Each belief you have is like a glass of water with a couple drops of food dye to change its color, and each color represents a different belief.
Let’s say that you have a belief that you want to change, we’ll call that belief yellow. The belief you want to change to we are going to call red.
For every time you expose yourself to your new belief you drip a drop of red water onto your sponge. Pretty soon your sponge is orange, and then with persistent exposure you turn that sponge Red.
The Methods For Exposure:
1- Reading/Audio/Video- The most simple and self explanatory way of exposure is to read, listen to audio tapes, and watch movies that promote your desired new belief.
2- Mentors/friends- We all adopt habits and attitudes from those we spend the most time with. Make sure you are choosing these people intentionally.
3- Kick The Legs Out From Under Your Old Beliefs- Steve Pavlina teaches that beliefs are like a table. It has to be supported by its legs. If you start kicking holes in your old beliefs as you build upon your new ones, the old will fade out while the new ones surface.
Ask yourself questions such as “Does anyone believe in something other than what I believe?”, “Why do they believe that way?”, “Who’s right?”, “Do you know for sure?”, “Can you prove it?”, “If you held a different belief would it be helpful?”, or “Would it hurt you?”.
4- Visualization- When you see it in your mind your subconscious starts to accept it.
When Struggling With Doubt Pretend:
Ask yourself “If it could happen how would it occur?” or “What would it look like?” Then let your mind play it out. Draw it, or mold it out of clay if you feel like it.
When a child has a hard time believing something what does he do? He pretends! Children instinctively do this but, as we grow older we start to think it is silly. Let me tell you now- It’s one of the most brilliant things you can do!
When we pretend (even when we know we are pretending) we no longer feel like we are “lying”. We are just pretending right.
Remember, that our subconscious cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined. By taking away the hesitation created by feeling like you are lying to yourself, you create a solid image in your subconscious mind.
This image in turn becomes a powerful call to the universe to make your vision reality.

I gave a speach called The Fine Art of Mentoring in which I challenged recent graduates to break the mold of treating future students like second class citizens and take an interest in CARING for the betterment of others. You must believe in yourself as well as others. You can change your beliefs about yourself and your beliefs about others. I DARE you to try. BigMike

BigMike- I loved your speech, thanks for sharing.
Mark- I think the universe sometimes sends out a signal of what people need. I guess we both picked up on this one.
