Entrepreneurs Are Decided

I have been tagged by Vivienne at Versa Creations.  Inspired by the article “The DNA of an Entrepreneur” by Greg Watson.  She asks the question are entrepreneurs born or made.

I believe that neither word really fits.  Instead I think that entrepreneurs are decided.  What I mean by that is entrepreneurs make the choice to become what they are.

They make the decision to start their own business.  Many things may contribute to this decision, some examples include; a feeling that it’s the most secure way to make money, a dream they want to pursue, they may feel they would be a letdown to their family if they took a regular job, they might want to work from home, or maybe they just hate working for other people.

Once this decision has been made the entrepreneur begins to learn about business in a whole new way.  They learn about business formats, licenses, and tax laws.  They learn about the SBA and SCORE.  They may learn accounting.

The cool thing about all of this knowledge only has to be learned once.  After the entrepreneur has done this one time they don’t have to relearn it in order to start another business.  It is now theirs for life.  I believe this is way most entrepreneurs tend to start multiple businesses in their life time.  They’ve already got the knowledge why not use it again?

The truth is that we all have the power to be what we want to be in life.  All we have to do is make a decision and follow the steps to achieve our dreams.  It doesn’t matter if you want to be a mechanic, an author, or an entrepreneur.

The decision is yours to make.  What do you want to be?  Once you have made the decision the path you need to travel will make itself known.

I agree that entrepreneurs are decided but the life skills they learn and the environment they learn them in as they grow up will heavily influence whether they are able to persist and succeed.

We (society) should create more entrepreneur learning environments instead of how to work for someone else.
    My 2 cents

Carma- I also think it would be great if we created more entrepreneur based learning environments. In fact one of my long term goals is to do just that. I’m working on it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Great article! It is always quite an experience for entrepreneurs, I think it demands that special mentality that sets them apart from others.

How Did You Become an Entrepreneur?

I have a question for you, especially if you are an entrepreneur. But, even if you aren’t, I would like you to consider the question. And then, please take a moment and post a comment to tell readers about your

As a serial entrepreneur myself, I find articles like yours enlightening. It is always good to find out more about oneself from complete strangers….thanks!

Cindy- Thank you, yes it is.

Rick- I was kind of raised into it, most of the members of my family are entrepreneurs. I think it’s just what I know. I have taken a “regular job” here and there but, I always resort back to doing my own thing. (I know kind of sound like I’m contradicting my article but, I decided to be who I am. I could have decided otherwise, no matter what my family did.)
