Power Through Your Frustration

How many times have you quit because you were frustrated?  If you are like me then the answer will be, more than you can count.  Too often we give up right on the brink of success.

If we could learn to power past this frustration we would be much more successful people.  We could learn more new things and participate in all kinds of activities.  We would be able to advance faster in our jobs, and in life.

Instead of adding to the we could list, I’m going to tell you that YOU CAN!!  I would never just leave you with just the affirmation so, now I’m going to tell you how.

1-  Learn All You Can-  Before you even try, get a book, do some on line research, or talk to someone who can already do what you want to.  This way you are starting out with some base knowledge.

2-  Start Out Easy-  Taking baby steps at first.  The initial steps should be so easy that you can’t fail.  This will give you more confidence to proceed.

3-  Reward Yourself-  If what you have done is a step for you reward yourself.  This reward could be as simple as patting yourself on the back, or an extravagant trip to Paris.  Make the reward equal to the effort required by you.

4-  Get Mentors-  I always try to have multiple mentors because, nobody is exactly like me.  What works for one may or may not work for me but, if I have several examples to choose from chances are one of them will do something I can work with.

5-  Give Yourself A Break-  You are not going to be great at everything, especially in the beginning.  Allow yourself room for mistakes, you are going to make them.

6-  Have Fun-  Bring along your sense of humor, and don’t take yourself too seriously.  Laugh at your own mistakes and go on.  Remember- everyone starts at the beginning, and not even professionals are perfect.  Don’t expect too much out of yourself to begin with.

    Hi Priscilla,

Great tips here. It is usually when a person is closest to their goal when things seem the most difficult.

During such times, being aware of the self-talk would be essential. Beliefs–> Thoughts –> Feelings –> Action/Non-action. Have a great week. ;)

Andrew- Thank you for adding to the conversation. You are very much correct! Being aware of self talk is essential.

Surjit- It’s great to hear from you again. Thanks for the compliment.

Great tips! Perhaps I should reward myself with that
trip to Paris! (or maybe just Lake Powell!)
Or probably the best thing would be to just give myself that break (you mean I don’t have to be perfect?) Yes, that is what I need!!
    Great post! Thanks Priscilla!
