Trust Yourself

One person tells you to do this.  Someone else tells you to do that.  Pretty soon it all becomes overwhelming.  This is when you need to realize that you are a spiritual being who is always connected to the supreme power of God.  When you are trying to make a decision look inside yourself.  Ask yourself questions then meditate and listen for the answers to come.

A lack of trust in yourself breaks your ability to improve.  You second guess yourself assuming that others know more than you do.  You make plans in your mind.  You know what you want.  You know what you’d like to do.  You set your goals and you’re ready to go.

Then you go out and talk to someone who says “Oh no!  what you need is…”  so you change your plans and forget about your own desires.  The problem with this is what they think is not what you think.  What they want is not what you want.  What they feel is not what you feel, and their destiny is not the same as yours.  Each of us was sent here with our own purpose.  We were each given the unique personalities, characteristics, talents, and desires needed to achieve our own purpose.

You know what you want and need better than anyone else does.  Other people may mean well, but they can lead you wrong.  Leaving only you to feel the pain of regret when you think about what you want and realize you are not happy.  You may think: I wish I would have just followed through with my plan the first time, then I would not have wasted all this time.

If you don’t learn this lesson The process relentlessly loops back on itself over and over again. Your purpose is your destiny.  It was predetermined between you and God before you were born.  It is like a constant electromagnetic force that will continuously pull you toward it, regardless of the egotistical pressures put on us by ourselves, family, and society.

We simply must learn to make our own decisions and follow through on our plans.  We can and should listen the advice of others for informational purposes.  But, if that advice isn’t going to get you where you need to go it’s best to listen politely then do what you had originally planned.

    Hello Pricilla:

I agree with your argument. We rarely give full creedence to our innermost feelings and drives. Is there a reason why we humans tend to defer to other peoples’ views and ideas about what we should do?

Thank you for the comment! I am not sure about the reason for our tendency to do this. I would think that it has something to do with our social nature, or maybe culture.

Sometimes people have a hard time figuing out why they have conditioned themselves to think, feel and react in certain ways. One view about this lifetime is each of us is meant to unlearn what we teach ourselves in order to discover underlying lessons. I would invite anyone interested to take the angel test on my blog and post a comment about their results. People can be surprised about what they discover:
